“Nicolai is often mixing the motifs of classic and beautiful with the shadowy realms of the mind. More frequently he is using psychological undertones to embody an occurring aesthetic to his work manifesting strange and unknown situations.
Often immediately seen as playful and romantic, Nicolai`s photographs reveal the dark an chaotic. But, contrary to popular interpretation where the beautiful is usually hiding the ugly, this is meant to be a contrast and an eye opener; inviting human beings to understand the contradictions imposed on us as well as the ones that we impose on ourselves.”
